Kidulthood Opening Scene Analysis

The film begins with the title of the film ‘Kidulthood’ the main analysis that I can make from this clip is on the font. The font used gives an urban impression. It is also very simple with the white writing with the black background. This could signify that the kids are the only shining light in a dark area.
This shot signifies the fun that still happens at the school and that the students still have fun at school however the muddiness of thee field, ball and students represents the dark side of where they live and represents how hard their lives are.
They then begin to introduce the different social groups; the first group introduced were the two girls. They are the chavvy girls of the school, the girls on the left is the more extreme than the other with her larger gold hooped earrings.
The next group introduced are the higher class girls. They are slightly smarter dressed and are talking about more serious subjects.
Then the bad man crew are introduced, they are not dressed in school uniform and look older than the other students in the school. They are clearly the rebels of the school and all the other students are intimidated by them.
There is then a shot of a drill, the lighting is much darker which signifies that something bad is going on.
Another social group are introduced, the middle class boys who want to become part of the cooler more chavvy group. They are hosting a party and are inviting all of the chavvy students saying anything goes as they want to be accepted by a different social group.
There is then a shot of the moving drill bit, this represents danger and could also represent a knife or a dagger.
There is then a shot of another student who is inbetween groups, he is still young at heart as he playing on his little prothers gameboy. However he is still trying to be part of the cooler kids group as he is wearing a hoody.
