Rough Cut - 25/02/2011

Today we showed the group our rough cut. There were some problems which we already knew about but they also gave us so points to improve on.

The first thing was our titles. We had spent little time on titles and just quickly did them at the end before exporting our video so we kind of expected that response. We were told to think more about the font and when they appear and go. We were already prepared for this response so it wasnt't too much of a concern.

The second pointer was the title. Our initial idea was to call the film 'Against All Odds' as the main character would be achieving greatness against the odds. But we were told that from the opening scene it didnt really link. We now need to think of a new name for our film as soon as we can.

They were impressed with our editing and how it fitted with the music although there were a few minor tweaks that needed to be changed. One was the use of the Noise effect, in some of the shots the percentage was too high which made the shots just look stupid but that will be easy to change.

There was a few shots that we would need to redo and 10 seconds that we needed to fill which we plan to have Sam in the recording studio.

After showing our rough cut to the group we have had no major shocks and nothing too drastic that needs to be changed so we are reasonably happy with our feedback.

Filming - 24/02/2011

Today we re-filmed some scenes that had continuity errors from before and also filmed a few shots inside the schools recording studio.

We were slightly lucky with the weather as there wasn't too much difference between the lighting on the first shooting compared to the second.

We are now going to put all the clips together ready to be shown as a Rough Cut to our teacher and the class.

This will give us feedback on how to make our video better.

Editing 18/02/2011

After filming yesterday we added our new clips to our video. We spent the afternoon editing each of the clips into our sequence. We spotted a few continuity problems once the videos were uploaded which we will need to film again however we are please with our progress as a group so far.

Filming - 17/02/2011

Today we spent the morning filming Sam's part of the film. Sam's character is the wealthy and already established rapper so we needed to find a location to reflect this.

Initially we were just going to film in the schools reconding studio but we realised that this wouldn't be substantial enough for the whole film.

Fortunately on one of our location scoutings we visited Thorpe Hall which would be ideal for Sams part. We were also lucky with the weather as it was a nice day which improved the lighting of each shot making the location look better.

After gaining permission to film in the grounds we were able to take some ideal shots showing how wealthy 'Sam Sparkz' is and how his lifestyle varies from 'Tom Bensons'

We have uploaded and tranferred the clips today and we will edit them tomorrow.

Editing - 14/02/2011

Today we began to edit our video, we had to visit the ICT Technicians as our save areas weren't big enough to change the format of our clips.

Once they had been changed we went through each clip removing the parts that we either didn't need, had clear errors or just didn't look good.

We then imported the videos Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and began to put together the beginning sequence.

We next plan to film on the 17th February. We will film Sam's part of the film then. 

Filming - 11/02/2011

Today we went to film some more of the main characters scene. We managed to get a good clip on a long path which we think will be good for our end scene.

We also went to scout locations that we would be able to use for other parts of the opening scene.

Filming - 10/02/2011

We started recording our final task on Thursday 10th February. We went to the abandoned Dairy Crest Factory in Peterborough as it was a good location to show that the mian character lived in a bad area. During the filming session we also went to the nearby flats where Sols brother lives to set the scene for the main character.

We are going to get the video files transferred to our shared area on Monday to begin our editting process.
